Many people think that a pillow with a down filling is the best choice for healthy sleep and a good night's rest. At Bath&Living, we specialize in down pillows produced by Vandyck - a brand that has existed for over 100 years and stands for quality, sustainability, and excellent sleeping comfort. A down pillow combines a filling of down and feathers with a tightly woven cotton ticking, creating an airy, resilient, and comfortable sleeping surface. Our collection mainly includes pillows in the standard Dutch size of 60×70 cm, with options ranging from super soft to extra firm. Below, you can discover exactly which type Vandyck down pillow suits your sleeping position.
Types of down pillows in our Vandyck collection
There are many types of down pillows available for different preferences. Bath&Living primarily carries Vandyck pillows from the Pure Nature collection and a Premium box pillow, with clear differences in firmness and construction. Vandyck has 36 different pillows in its assortment, including various down varieties. In our collections, you can easily choose by firmness (soft, medium, firm) and pillow type (down, washable, ergonomic, or anti-allergic). Vandyck offers down pillows with different labels for unique properties: blue stands for firm, green for medium, yellow for soft, and pink for super soft.
Super soft and plush down pillows (for stomach and back sleepers)
Super-soft and soft down pillows often feature a high percentage of goose down – for example, 90% down and 10% small goose feathers. A down pillow with 90% down is soft and low, making it ideal for stomach sleepers who need a thin, soft pillow. A high down percentage makes pillows lighter and softer, allowing you to literally sink into comfort. These pillows lie supple and low, so that the head and neck remain in a natural position without unnecessary pressure. The Pure Nature super-soft variant (pink label) has a fill weight of approximately 600 grams, while the soft model (yellow label) weighs around 800 grams – both are excellent for stomach sleepers and light back sleepers.
Medium down pillows (all-round use)
Medium pillows offer a balanced ratio of down to feathers. Preferably choose a pillow with a combination of down and feathers for balance – for example, 60–70% goose down for light weight with 30–40% small goose feathers for firmness and support. Back sleepers need an average pillow for neck support, and that is exactly what a medium model offers. This is the ideal choice for alternate sleepers who switch between side and back sleeping. A 3-chamber construction ensures a balance between softness and support: the Pure Nature 3-chamber 90 has soft outer chambers with plenty of down and a firmer core with more feathers for durable support.
Firm and extra firm down pillows (side sleepers)
A down pillow with 90% feathers is firm and high—exactly what side sleepers need. More feathers provide firmness and support in pillows, and firm models have a higher fill weight (towards 1,200–1,400 grams) with ratios such as 15% down and 85% feathers. Side sleepers require a thicker pillow for the space between the head and the mattress; this pillow fills that space and keeps the neck straight. Avoid pillows with pure down if you need strong support.&Living has a Pure Nature feather pillow with 100% feathers for firmness (blue label) as well as models that focus on luxurious support with extra firmness through a combination of down and feathers. For example, divided into 2- or 3-chamber pillows or a down core combined with a feather edge.
Down box pillows (with raised edge)
A box cushion is rectangular with a raised edge of approximately 8 cm, ensuring the cushion is the same height everywhere and retains its shape. The Vandyck The PREMIUM box pillow (50×60 cm) features a satin ticking and high-quality goose down filling of 90% down and 10% feathers. This type is particularly suitable for side sleepers who want constant support, or people with broad shoulders who need extra support. The Pure Nature BOX with 15% down, 85% feathers, and a fine-combed cotton ticking is also an excellent choice.
What should you look for when choosing a down pillow?
Down percentage, fill weight, ticking, and construction together determine how a pillow feels and how long it lasts. A high fill power indicates better quality and resilience of the down. All Vandyck down pillows near Bath&Living is Downpass certified: the down is responsibly sourced and strictly checked on all aspects of animal welfare.
Down and feather ratio
The ratio of down to feathers largely determines the character of your pillow. A ratio of 90% down and 10% feathers results in a very soft, light, and airy pillow. More down means less weight and more softness, while more feathers provide firmness and support. Specific ranges: super-soft pillows contain approximately 90% goose down or more, while firm pillows have 50% or more feathers. Many people think that only the down percentage matters, but the interplay with the fill weight is at least as important.
Filling weight and height
The fill weight – for example 550 g, 800 g, or 1200 g – together with the down-to-feather ratio, determines how high and filled a pillow is. A lower fill weight combined with a lot of down provides a flat, supple sleeping position; a higher fill weight with more feathers results in a fuller, firmer pillow. Down ventilates well and absorbs moisture, regardless of the fill weight. The filling and ratio that suits you best depends on your sleeping position. At Bath&We mention Living with every Vandyck pillow page shows the exact fill weight, so you can compare specifically and choose the pillow that suits your personal preference.
Construction: 1-chamber, 2- and 3-chamber and box models
A standard single-chamber pillow has a single compartment in which the filling moves freely. Multi-chamber models such as the Vandyck 2-chamber and 3-chamber pillows have separate compartments: soft down on the outside and a core with more feathers for lasting firmness. Down pillows are resilient and retain their shape, especially with a multi-chamber construction. Box pillows with raised edges offer even more stability and are particularly comfortable for side sleepers who want to be supported in the same position all night long.
Ticking and finish (cotton, satin, piping)
Down pillows often feature a tightly woven ticking. The ticking is the outer layer of a pillow, or the cover surrounding the filling. Vandyck Down pillows use tickings made of finely woven 100% cotton or cotton satin, often finished with luxurious piping. A good ticking keeps dust mites out and offers comfort – the dense weave prevents down from escaping and creates a barrier against allergens. The PREMIUM line features an even softer satin weave and fine finish, contributing to a particularly luxurious sleeping experience.
Certification and animal welfare (Downpass)
Downpass is an international certificate that guarantees that down is traceable and ethically sourced: no live plucking or force-feeding, good conditions on European farms, and independent checks throughout the entire production chain. All Vandyck pillows with down and feathers at Bath&Living is Downpass certified. Many down pillows are hypoallergenic and anti-allergic thanks to the combination of certified down and tightly woven ticking.

- Sleeping position (stomach, back, side) - Stomach sleepers choose a super-soft or soft, low down pillow with a high down content and limited fill weight, so that the head does not lie too high. Side sleepers benefit from a higher, firmer pillow or box pillow that fills the space between the shoulder and the head.
